The daughter of Earl Houghtby Sr and Edith (Drinkwater) Houghtby, Florence Houghtby was born in Milan Township, Michigan in 1922.[citation needed] By 1940, her family had established their household in Blissfield, Michigan.[1] Florence graduated from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, matriculating with a Bachelor of Arts in English.[citation needed] She enlisted during World War II, serving as a Storekeeper 1 in the United States Navy.[citation needed] After the war, she was discharged to California, where she nd married Arnold William Blankenship (1920-2006), the son of William Petway Blankenship and Mary Etta Gabehart, marrying in Los Angeles County on July 24, 1947.[2] They made their home in Tustin and Santa Ana, California,[3] in La Verne, California.[4]
Florence and her husband later moved to Thurston, Washington, where Arnold Blankenship passed away.[citation needed] Florence Blankenship passed away in Issaquah, Washington[citation needed] at the age of 98 and is buried with her husband at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Washington.[5]
