Biography

MORE RESEARCH IS NEEDED FOR THIS INDIVIDUAL.

Sarah Houlton, daughter of Joseph Houlton and Sarah Ingersoll Haines Houlton, was born about 1669. Her birth is recorded as Danvers, Massachusetts.

Early New England Marriages indicate that Sarah Houlton born 1669 married Anthony Needham as his first wife but does not provide a date.

I have not found a death date for Sarah Needham. There is a death for an unnamed Needham wife of Isaac January 11, 1781 at Salem. It is unlikely that this is the Sarah born in 1669 because it would make her 112 years old at the time of her death.

There is a printed genealogy of the Needham family showing Anthony Needham born April 11, 1663. This Anthony married Mary Swinerton. This marriage is recorded January 3, 1695 at Salem and indicates his birth-death as 1663-1757.

I have not found a marriage of Isaac Needham to Sarah Houlton.

I am related to Sara Sally Houlton Buckingham buried in Jefferson County Ohio On April 14, 1973 Family researchers visited Mr. James Emmett Everson in Wells Twp. He was born in 1897 (John b 1855, James b 1805, and Samuel). He lived below the knob on which the Everson Cemetery is located and owns the farm where it is. Mr. Everson stated that he owned the farm where the cemetery is located on the Old George Buckingham place. It is about a half of a mile east of the Matthews Cemetery on a hill, on the other side of the valley. The cemetery on the Buckingham place is near the crest of the hill and about 300-400 yards east of Buckingham Ridge County Road 162, about a mile to the first deep valley. There are about a half dozen graves there marked with field stones with no dates or mother markings on them. Mr. Everson reported about 1920 or 1930 his tenant removed the stones and put the graveyard into cultivation against his wishes and he was quite upset when he learned of the removal of the stones. These burials undoubtedly date back before 1800.

The graves cultivation in 1820's or 1930's may hold a clue but were lost to history. I believe I am collateral ancestor or perhaps a direct ancestor to Thomas Houlton Second Wife was on The Mayflower II . During holidays my grandmother told me my people had come over on The Mayflower Ship… to my amazement! …I was 6years old ! … Richard Inkersall and his wife Anne came to New England as a family on the Mayflower II in 1629. The Master of this Mayflower II was the famous Captain William Pierce. The ship left Gravesend, London, England March 1629 and arrived at Plymouth, May 15, 1629.A little baby girl no older than 2 years age was on board the future Mrs. Joseph Houlton Sr Sarah would have a 2nd husband marrying on 13 November 1651 Joseph Houlton. At an earlier time, Joseph who had been a servant in his father’s house. Together they has a number of children and he a brewed of young ins from his first wife…The boys included Benjamin, Henry , James ,John , Joseph Jr., Henry 2 , James H and a number of girls including Sara Houlton. Both The Houlton & Buckingham names appears in my proven Sons of the American Revolution membership application. Maryland records of ships did not record arrivals of passengers so I have spent 15 years researching and will work more on Joseph Houlton First wife .
