Abraham House was born March 5, 1803, the son of Peter C. House. An Abraham House of Minden, "sn of Peter", married Anna Bowman on April 25, 1819,[1] and the 1830 census for Herkimer shows an Abram House recorded immediately after John Bowman. Abram and his wife are between the ages of 20 and 30, with two males between 5 and 10, one female between 5 and 10 and one female between 10 and 15. The 1840 census record for the Abraham House in Herkimer shows one male and one female between the ages of 40 and 50, one male between 5 and 10, one male between 10 and 15, two females under 5 and one female between 10 and 15.[2] By this time, however, he may have been married to Elizabeth Shaut, and the children, born beginning from 1828, are traditionally attributed to Elizabeth.
At Minden, however, there was both a Peter C. House[3] and a Peter A. House.[4] If Abraham was born March 5, 1803, as indicated above, he would have been too young to marry April 25, 1819. So perhaps there were two different Abraham Houses of Minden that married in Herkimer county, one the son of Peter C. House that married Elizabeth Shaut, and one the son of Peter A House that married Anna Bowman (Bauman). .
Abraham and Elizabeth lived in Herkimer county to about 1834 and moved to Avoca, Steuben county, where they remained. So far the marriages and descendants of the four daughters, Lany, Lavia, Mary and Nancy, have not been traced.
