In 1881, 8 year old George, born in Yockleton, Shropshire, is living with his parents in Shawbury^[1]

In 1891, 18 year old George is serving in the Shropshire Light Infantry, based in the depot in Shrewsbury^[2]

The marriage of George Howells to Mary Taylor was recorded in Atcham in 1896^[3]

In 1901, 27 year old George, born in Yockleton, is living with his wife and daughter Alice in the parish of St. Mary, Shrewsbury where he is working as a farm labourer^[4]

In 1911, 37 year old George, born in Yockleton, is living with his wife and children in the parish of St. Mary, Shrewsbury. He is working as a general labourer for the borough council^[5]

Research Notes

I have found no guarantee that the George Howells in military service in 1891 in the Shropshire Light Infantry is this George Howells, but since he is the right age and in Shrewsbury where this George Howells is living in 1901, I think it is most likely the same person. However there are other George Howells born around the same time. It is more certain that the 1901 and 1911 George is the same person since the birthplace is specified as Yockleton.

The 1911 census says that George and Mary have been married 14 years which makes the wedding either 1896 or 1897. FreeBMD has only two weddings of a George Howells to a Mary in either of those two years in either Shropshire (where George is living) or Warwickshire (where Mary was born according to the census). One is in Atcham (to Mary Taylor) which includes Shrewsbury so the most likely. Unfortunately there are a large number of Mary Taylors born in Warwickshire so can't identify her parents.
