Biography

Solomon Howes was born on July 1, 1800, in Barnstable County, Massachusetts, his father, Solomon Howes, was 27 and his mother, Elizabeth Ryder, was 26. He married Eliza Taylor on April 14, 1827, in Chatham, Massachusetts. They had nine children in 22 years; Augusta, Saluda, Zenas T, Jonathan Collins, Mary M, Arethusa, Solomon Lucas, Lucella, and Eliza. Solomon worked as a mariner. He died on September 15, 1878, in Chatham, Massachusetts, having lived a long life of 78 years.
