Biography

New Zealand
William Howie lived in Whangarei Heads, Northland, New Zealand.

William was born in 1872 in Northland, New Zealand. William Howie's parents were Robert Howie, a shipbuilder and settler from Scotland, and Margaret McDonald. His birth place was recorded on the registration as Manaia, but this is not to be confused with the place of that name in Taranaki. There is a Mt Manaia in Whangarei Heads, often simply known as Manaia.

William was a farmer in Northland, and married Louisa Jane Gloyn, but they appear to have gone their separate ways.

He passed away in 1944 at the age of 72. He is buried in the Kamo Cemetery in Northland. William died the same day, 5 December 1944, as another Howie - Samuel Holden Howie of Auckland. It is not known if they were related. One online digitised burial record records his middle name as Charles but no official record has been located with this additional middle name - all others located show the middle name as Wallace. Transcription error on the digitised burial record is suspected. Interment took place on 7 December 1944. [1]

In William's will he bequeaths the use of his property to his friend Patricia Eleanore Liddle for her lifetime, and that she would be able to, in her will, pass on his residuary estate as she saw fit. The Public Trust was the executor and trustee of his will. An affidavit of the Public Trustee notes a nephew of William, named Norman Bruce Howie of Kamo advised that William had been born at Whangarei Heads. Patricia Liddle provided an affidavit regarding William Howie's death.
