Doctor Cyril Beresford Howse was born in 1872 at Stogursey, Somerset, England. He was the fourth and youngest son of Alfred Howse and Lucy Conroy.[1]
During the Second Boer War, Cyril was a Civil Surgeon, Royal Army Medical Corps, attached to 11th Battalion, Imperial Yeomanry. He possibly caught up with his medical doctor older bother, Neville, who was a Victoria Cross recipient during that war, for Australia. He was awarded the Queen's South Africa Medal with clasps for Wittebergen, Cape Colony and Transvaal.
He migrated to New South Wales, Australia in 1908 aboard the Willcania[2], settling at Orange where his older brother, Neville had a medical practice.
He married Marjorie Bowman on 10th October 1915 in St Phillip's Church, Sydney.[3] They had three sons:
In 1919, he purchased 2 acres 1 rood 12 perches allotment of land at Kite Street, Orange, including the home, 'Killiney'.
In 1936 he was living at 52 Hill Street, Orange, and in 1942 at 33 Summer Street, Orange. He passed away on 10th September 1947 at Orange.[4]
