Charles Lemuel Hudler was born in North Carolina in 1845. He was the son of Lemuel Hudler and Mary Ann Debruhle. Charles was one of thirteen children born to Lemuel and Mary Ann.
In 1855, Charles and his family moved from North Carolina to Louisa County, Iowa where Charles’s father farmed 1,700 acres of land.
By 1880, Charles had left Iowa and was farming in Hickory County, Missouri. In 1883, he married Della D Coleman, the daughter of John Crawford Coleman and Mary Jane Critcher.
Sometime before 1910, Charles left farming, became an architect, and moved his family to St. Louis. Charles and Della had six daughters and one son. They were:
In 1918, Charles, his wife, son, and four daughters established homesteading claims in Grand County, Colorado near Grandby. Charles died only one year later on May 18, 1919. He is buried at the Hot Sulfer Springs Cemetery in Grand County, Colorado. His wife and children went on to obtain 4,300 acres of land on which they operated the Hudler Tin Whistle Ranch.
