Biography

Sarah Hunt was born in about 1846 at Leafield in Oxfordshire, the daughter of Joseph Hunt and his wife Jane, born Jane Shayler ^{[1] [2]}. ^{[3] [4]}

In 1851, Sarah was living at Leafield with her grandfather Caleb Hunt, her parents Joseph and Jane, and their other daughters. It appears that in the record, her name has been swapped with her younger sister Jane - this has been assumed. Her age was given as 5, implying a birth date in 1845 or 1846. Her birthplace was given as Leafield, Oxfordshire. She was at school ^[2].

In 1861, Sarah was living at The Row in Leafield with her parents and sister. Her age was given as 14, implying a birth date in 1846 or 1847. Her birthplace was given as Leafield, Oxfordshire. She was a gloveress ^[5].

Samuel Pratley, a labourer, of Leafield, son of Samuel Pratley, labourer; and Sarah Hunt, of Wychwood, daughter of Joseph Hunt, labourer; were married at Leafield church on 5 June 1868. The witnesses were called Jesse Dodd and Fanny Hunt. [Probably Sarah's brother-in-law and sister,] ^[3]
