Biography
William was born in Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland, on 27 October 1850, the eldest son of John Hunter and Isabella Buchan. He was a freestone quarryman. He married Jean Grant in Dunfermline on 3 July 1874 and they had a family of seven daughters and not a single son. He died of valvular heart disease in Dunfermline on 20 January 1899, aged 48.
