Irvine was born about 1856. He may have been born in Victoria, Australia, as he emigrated to New Zealand from Melbourne at 6 years of age.

He married Mary Ann Densem in 1890 in New Zealand.

Irvine was a Shipwright in Port Chalmers.

His last address was: Magnetic Street, Port Chalmers, Dunedin

He passed away in 1924 and was buried at Port Chalmers New Cemetery. Mary Ann passed away four years later and was buried with Irvine.
