Pvt. Aaron Ivins was the son of Issac Ivins (1806-1881) and Mary Wood (1813-1887).[1][2]
He was married to Mahala Dean prior to 1860, she was 17 years old on the 1860 census record and they were living in the household of his parents. They had two sons, Marion born in 1861 and Hiram Ivins born in 1862, died in 1930. Mahala 2nd husband was Eli Mann. Aaron was living in Middlebury, Indiana at the time of his enlistment.[3]
Aaron enlisted in the Union Army on 11 August 1862. He was mustered into Company I, 88th Indiana Infantry. Two of his brothers also enlisted in the Union Army: Owen and Solomon.[4]
Aaron was taken prisoner at Chickamauga, Georgia on 20 September 1863. He died from Diarrhea in the Andersonville Prison on 28 August 1864, and is buried in the Andersonville National Cemetery, #7100.[5]
