Biography

Adam Jackson was born on 10 Feb 1816 in Derbyshire, England to Jonathan Jackson and Emma.

Adam Jackson, son of Jonathan & Emma, was christened on 10 Mar 1816 in Chapel en le Frith, Derbyshire.[1]

Adam Jackson (of full age, Bachelor, Carder, residing at Water Side Disley, son of Jonathan Jackson, Smith) and Alice Sidebotham (of full age, Spinster, residing at Mount Pleasant Disley, daughter of James Sidebotham, Weaver) were married on 7 Apr 1841 at St Mary's in Stockport, Cheshire - the witnesses were Helen Johnson & Samuel Sidebottom.[2] Banns of Marriage had been published in Stockport on the three previous Sundays: 21 Mar 1841, 28 Mar 1841, and 4 Apr 1841.[3] The marriage was registered in Stockport in the second quarter of the year.[4]

Adam and Alice had at least six children:

  1. Thomas James Jackson (???)
  2. Emma (Jackson) Davies (c1847-1934)
  3. Adam Watson Jackson (c1851-1927)
  4. Alice Watson (Jackson) Parker (c1855-1931)
  5. Phoebe Olive Jackson (c1857-1946)
  6. Caroline Jackson (1859-1939)

In 1841 Adam Jackson (age 20-24) lived at Waterside in Stockport with his wife Alice (25-29) and mother Emma (50-54).[5]

Adam emigrated to New Zealand in 1841: Adam Jackson (24, Sawyer), with his wife Alice (25), sailed aboard the ship Martha Ridgeway, which departed from Liverpool, England on 6 Nov 1841 and arrived in Nelson, New Zealand on 7 Apr 1842.[6]

Adam Jackson passed away on 28 Sep 1892. He is buried at Omaka Cemetery in Blenheim, Marlborough District, New Zealand.
