Edna (Jagger) Sykes was born in Yorkshire, England.
Edna was born in Shelf, Yorkshire, England, on May 25,1904. [1] Her birth was registered in Halifax. She was the daughter of Fred Jagger and Julia Robinson. She was baptized on August 15, 1904, in Coley at St John.[2] The Parish Register listed her parents as Fred and Julia residing on Brow Lane, Shelf, her father's occupation "Wool Sorter".[3] She was enumerated in the 1911 census [4] as a six year old residing with her parents and one year old sister Ada at 3 Clough Hill, Shelf.
Edna married Tom Sykes in 1930.[5] The ceremony was performed on December 15th in Coley at St John. The Parish Register listed Edna as a twenty six year old spinster residing at 3 Clough Hill, Shelf. Her father was named as Fred Jagger "Wool Sorter". Tom was a twenty seven year old bachelor and "Police Constable" residing at 12 Hope Street, Shelf. His father was named as Richard Sykes (deceased) "Banksman". The witnesses were Fred Jagger and Lily Webster Brand.[6] It appears the couple had two children. Edna and Tom were enumerated in the 1939 Register [7] residing at 177 Green Lane, Rawmarsh. (Rawmarsh is a large village in the Metropolitan Borough of Rotherham, now South Yorkshire, but historically within the West Riding). Two children at residence (one listed, one redacted). Tom was a "Police Sergeant" and Edna's occupation "Unpaid Domestic Duties".
Edna passed away in 1978. [8] Her death was registered in the fourth quarter in Ponterfract, West Yorkshire. She was seventy four.
