James Thomas "Shine" Jenkins, age 82, of Crestview, Fla., passed away Sunday, Sept. 20, 1997, at Crestview Convalescent Home.

He was born in Chipley, Fla., and had been residing in Okaloosa County, Fla., since 1950. Mr. Jenkins was a member of New Bethel United Methodist Church for over 40 years.

He was a member of the United States Army during World War II, serving in China, Burma and India, where he was awarded a Bronze Star for bravery. He worked for telephone companies in Georgia, Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and Crestview for 30 years, and retired from Central Telephone Co. of Florida in 1979.

Mr. Jenkins is survived by his wife of 51 years, Addie Barber Jenkins of Crestview; son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Sylvia Jenkins of Crawfordville, Fla.; grandchildren, Kelley and Kerry Jenkins, both of Crawfordville; several nieces, nephews, great-and great-great-nieces and nephews; two sisters-in-law; and many friends.
