John Jenkins was born in 1801 in Llanwenog, Cardiganshire, Wales, United Kingdom, son of David Jenkins (~1776 - 1849) and Mary Lewis (1776 - 1868).

John married Jennet Jones ( - 1837) on 27 Jun 1836 in Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorgan, Wales.
