Ruby was born in Craik, Saskatchewan, Canada, probably Aylesbury, on 29 May 1923. She was a daughter of Oscar Jennings and Maude Crippen.[1]
Ruby appeared in the household of her grandfather Walter Crippen for the 1926 Canada Prairie Provinces at Craik, Long Lake, Saskatchewan. She was recorded as 3 years old and born in Sakatchewan. She was living with her mother, her siblings Delmar and Wesley, her grandparents and eight aunts and uncles.[2]
Ruby and her family moved to Illinois where her father was born by December of 1934.[3] She appeared at East Peoria, Fondulac Township, Tazewell County, Illinois for the 1940 census as 17 years old, born in Canada, was living in East Peoria since April of 1935 and had completed one year of high school. She was listed with her parents and two siblings.[4]
Ruby married William F. Payton (1920-1992[5]) at Peoria, Illinois on 30 June 1946. They had at least two children together: William N. Payton and Sharon J. Payton Johnson.[1]
Ruby died in Matoon, Illinois on 2 December 2006. She shares a headstone with her husband William in Zion Hill Cemetery at Paradise Township, Coles County, Illinois.[6][1]
