Buried 15 Feb 1939. Mount Calvery Cemetery, Frankfort, Marshall County, Kansas.
Transcript: The community was saddened by the death of Miss Ruth Jensen, who passed away at the Marysville Hospital Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. She had undergone a serious operation Saturday, and was apparently making a normal recovery, but early Sunday morning she took a sudden turn for the worse and passed away that afternoon. Ruth Josephine Jensen was born at Blue Rapids, Kansas, November 28, 1921 and passed away at Marysville, Kansas February 12, 1939, aged 17 years, two months and sixteen days. She was the daughter of Nels and Julia Jensen. Mrs. Jensen, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Choquette, of Beattie, passed away June 15, 1932. Ruth is survived by her father, Nels Jensen; a sister Alvina (Mrs. Lyle C. Roper) of Fairmont, Nebraska; and three brothers, Francis, Lester, and Charles of the home. She is also survived by her grandmother, Mrs. Harley Ingraham and Mr. Ingraham of Blue Rapids, and several other aunts, uncles and other relatives, who sorrow at her untimely departure. In the fall of 1932, Mr. Jensen and his family moved to Beattie where the children attended St. Malachy's School until the later part of March. During that time, Ruth was confirmed and received her first communion. In March, the children went to Blue Rapids to live with their grandparents while the father found work elsewhere. In the summer of 1935, the family returned to Beattie and have since made their home here. Ruth was only nearing eleven when the family came here to establish a home following the death of the mother. In spite of her youth, she accepted her share of the duties in the home and attended school and church faithfully. Many experienced homemakers have expressed admiration for the capable way in which the two young sisters, with the help of the father, have made a home for themselves and their brothers. Ruth had completed the ten year course at St. Malachy's Parochial School and this year had enrolled as a junior in Beattie High School. Much of her time was taken by her schoolwork, and she looked after the needs of her brothers with a motherly interest. But she also found time for fun and good times with the other girls of her age. Her cheerful presence will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday morning at ten o'clock from St. Malachy's Church by the Rev. Fr. Wm. L. Nelligan. Burial was made in the Catholic Cemetery at Frankfort. Six schoolmates acted as pall bearers: Lawrence Meier, Jack Hellse, Martin McMahon, Gerald Weaver, Paul Byers, and Paul Mason. Honorary pall bearers were Jeanette Hardman, Frances Knight, Lois Duver?, Faye LaVonne McMahon, Dorothy Harry, and Cleo Thorn. The funeral services were attended by the Junior class in a group.
