BIRTH: Correspondence in the possesion of Judith J. Fry from: Ev.-Lutheran Kirchemeinde, Hennstedt, Germany, to the effect that Peter Hinrich Johannsen was born July 30, 1867, the illegitimate son of Elsabe Johannsen, daughter of Workman Hans Johannsen. He was christened 18 August 1867. The father of the child was Jacob Groth of St. Michaelisdonn.

NAME CHANGE: Somewhere after he left Germany and came to America, about 1876, he changed his name to Phillip Henry Johnson and was known by that name here in America.
