Biography

John was born about 1774. He passed away in 1854.

From testimony at a trial regarding the inheritance after his death, "Col. Johnson, it appears from the testimony taken at the trial, was a government factor at Prairie du Chien in 1812, at that time a military post in the Indian country, and outside of the limits of any state. Whilst there, he formed a connexion with an Indian woman, the daughter of a chief named Keokuk, with whom he lived for several years, and by whom he had three children, daughters, named Rosella, Mary and Eliza." ^[1]
