Biography

The Johnson family lived in the township of Clinton, Lincoln county, in the province of Canada West (Ontario) during the 1851 Canadian Census. John was a 46 year old farmer at the time. He was born in Canada and has Methodist N.C. listed as a religion. He lived with wife Anna and children Mary, Jane, Lydia, George, Hiram, and Freeman. George Johnson, 78, same religion but from the United States, is listed immediately after the rest of the family. He may possibly be related. Click here for [1].

During the time of the 1861 Canadian census, John is a married 54 year old farmer living in the township of Clinton within the district of Lincoln in the province of Canada West (Ontario). He is listed as being born in Upper Canada with a religion of N.C. (?). He can read and write. The family lived in a single family, single story frame house built in 1852. John lived with wife Anna, and children Jane, George, Lydia E., Hiram, Freeman B., and Martha E. The family name shown is Johnson. Click here for [2].

The 1871 Canadian census shows John as a 65 year old farmer. He was born in Ontario, Canada but is listed as ethnically Irish and religion as N.C. (Canadian transcriptionists say it is New Connexion) Methodist. During the time of the census, he lived in the district of Lincoln, subdistrict Clinton, in the province of Ontario, Canada. John lives with wife Anna and children Josiah J.(Jane), Freeman, and Martha. Son George lives next door with wife Eliza and children Joel and Mary. All of their last names are listed at Johnson.
