Gentleman Architect.
"Nicky Johnston was an architect once described as the unsung genius among contemporary British architects.
"His work can be seen in many Country Houses where he adapted them for contemporary living. He designed the Cricket Pavilion at Wormsley.
"Country Life described him as a Gentleman Architect."
"He was the son of Captain Archibald Edward Johnston, CBE, RN (1885-1967), scion of that Irish gentry family, of Aughaward, and Isabel Pamela Shand (1895-1987), scion of the Lister gentry family, of Finningley Park."
"In 1958 he married Susanna Maria Chancellor (1935-2022), daughter of Sir Christopher John Chancellor, CMG (1904-1989) sometime head of that gentry family, of Hunstrete House, and Sylvia Mary Paget (1901-1996), daughter of Sir Richard Arthur Surtees Paget, 2nd Bt (1869-1955) and Lady Muriel Vernon Finch-Hatton (1876-1958), daughter of the 12th Earl of Winchilsea (1851-1898), with issue four daughters."
He survived his wife by one week and died on 11 March 2022.

"Johnston, Nicholas John, died peacefully at home on 11th March 2022, one week after the death of Susanna, his beloved wife of 63 years. Father of Clara, Lily, Rosie and Silvy. Grandfather of Bertram, Stella, Ruby and Honor, Myrtle, George, Ida, Barley, Martha and Wattie. The date of their funeral is yet to be confirmed. All enquiries to J Godfrey & Son Funeral Services, Ware Road, Stanford in the Vale, Faringdon."
