Biography
Charles, son of Lazarus Jones and Mary Catherines Williams, was born in England on 2 Nov 1878.[1] Charles's birth was registered in the Oct-Nov-Dec quarter of 1878 in the Ellesmere district and his mother's maiden name was: Williams.[2] Their family lived in Towyn (Merioneth), Machynlleth (registration district), Montgomeryshire, Wales; his father worked as a locomotive wagon maker.[3] In 1891, they family was living on Albert Road in Oswestry Town, Oswestry (registration district), Shropshire, England; his father was a carriage joiner.[4]
About 1900, Charles and future wife, Sarah Ann (Melling) Twist may have had a son, Charles Jones Twist who later used the name Charles Twist Jones.[5][6][7] (see research notes)
In 1901, Charles (age 22, single, and working as a commercial clerk) was a boarder living in St Helens, Lancashire, near future wife, Sarah.[8]
He arrived in Canada in 1904.[9][10]
Charles (age 30 and a bachelor) married Sarah (age 40 and a widow) on 21 August 1909 in New Westminster, British Columbia.[11][12]
In 1911, their family was living in Vancouver, British Columbia.[9]
His wife, Sarah died (age 52) on 20 October 1918.
He married May Mary Sparrow[13] on 20 Oct 1919 in Calgary, Alberta.[14] Their children included (see research notes):
In 1921, their family was living at 812 7th Ave. W. in Vancouver, British Columbia; Charles worked as a customs steno.[10]
In retirement, Charles created a famous bird aviary at his home at 5207 Hoy St in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Charles died (age 60) on 31 October 1939 in Vancouver, British Columbia.[1][18]

- Charles Jones Twist, was born in England about Aug 1900 (after the death of Alfred Twist). It is possible that Charles Jones was the father. Charles and Sarah were living near each other but not married yet. In the 1911 census, son, Chas E Jones must have been Charles Jones Twist, now using the name of his father.
- Son, Ronald Victor Jones, born about 1915, may have been a child from Charles' first marriage. Charles' first wife, Sarah died in 1918. Alternatively, he may have been the son of May's first husband, Willard E Gibbens.
- According to a marriage record provided by a family member, Charles married May Sparrow on 20 Oct 1919 in Calgary, Alberta. He was 40 and a widower and she was 38 and a spinster.
