Thomas Jordan was born in Yorkshire about 1791. He was baptized on 13 February 1791 at Beeford, Yorkshire.[1]

He married his wife "Amey"[2] or Adah Pearson on 24 November 1814. The wedding took place in either Beeford[3] or neighbouring Lissett.[4]

Thomas and Adah had several children following this. All of these children were christened in Beeford, implying that Thomas and his family lived in the parish. Indeed, the 1841 England and Wales census lists them as living on Main Street in Beeford.[5] Thomas is listed as a cordwainer in the 1820s.[6][7]

Thomas emigrated with his family to New Brunswick. It is thought that this occurred in 1843. Several of Thomas' brothers had already emigrated by this time. John emigrated in 1828. They secured land at a place which was subsequently named Jordan Mountain. According to some researchers, Thomas received a grant of 98 acres of land.[8]
