William was born about 1850, thed son of James Joiner and Matilda Mann . It is likely his mother's maiden name was Cooper. See parents biographies for details.

In the 1861 census William (age 11), Wheel Boy, was the son of James Joyner on London St Mary le Bow and St Pancras Soper Lane with All Hallows Honey Lane, Middlesex, England.[1]
