Biography

Mrs. Augusta Schönfisch, relict of the late Mr. Ferdinand Schönfisch, of Mount Walker, at the age of 74 years and 11 months. The deceased lady was a native of Prussia, and came to this State with her husband over 50 years ago. The latter was employed at different undertakings, but selected and settled on land at Mount Walker about 40 years ago, where he resided with his wife and family up to the time of his death, about 22 years ago. Subsequent to the death of her husband Mrs. Schönfisch remained on the farm for a considerable number of years, but on account of advancing years and declining health she went to reside at Ipswich, where her death took place. For the past 18 months she has been in very indifferent health, and was attended by Drs. Flynn and Hart, of Ipswich. The deceased, who was highly respected, reared a large family of two sons and nine daughters, of whom one daughter (Mrs. C. Gehrke) predeceased her by a number of years. The sons are Messrs. Otto Schönfisch, of Coleyville, and Gustav, of Mount Walker. The daughters are Mesdames F. Desjardin, C. Gehrke, W. Mier, Kuth, Clarke, J. Coyne, B. Sellars, and Miss A. Schönfisch. There are 70 granddchildren and 20 great grandchildren. The funeral took place from the residence of her son, Mr. G. Schönfisch, on Monday last, and was largely attended. The interment took place at the Lutheran Cemetery, Rosevale, where the remains of the deceased were placed beside those of her late husband. The ceremony at the graveside was conducted by Pastor Egen, of Brisbane. December 5.
