Descendant of a Volga German

Gary Duane Karst was born November 3, 1944, in Russell, KS to Richard and Lucile Karst. He passed away October 31, 2021, at home in Spokane, WA. He was a perfectionist with a strong work ethic. He worked in management in the parts industry for over 40 years until his retirement in 2007. Throughout his lifetime, Gary enjoyed pheasant and prairie dog hunting, silhouette shooting, gun collecting, motorcycles, bowling, golf, and cars. He especially loved restoring his '87 El Camino, "his baby". Gary dearly valued spending time and smoking cigars with his best friend, his son in law, John.

Gary is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara, daughter, Nancy (John) Nelson, granddaughter, Carrie (Cameron) Christensen, grandsons: Dane Kunasek, Will (Lexi) Kunasek, one great-grandson, Chase Kunasek; sister, Kay (Allen) Elsasser and several nieces and nephews. Gary is also survived by his extended family including his step-granddaughter, Jennifer (Bryce) Mackin and their three children and Becky and Larry Kurtze.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Don Karst, and two nephews.

At Gary's request, no services will be held, inurnment will be at Riverside Memorial Park at a later date.
