Biography

Son of James Kavanaugh and Tol Stolah also known as Caroline.

The 1870 Census for Fidalgo, Whatcom, Washington Territory lists James Kavanaugh as age 42, born in Ireland. His wife Caroline was age 28, born in Washington Territory. In the family were Sarsfield Kavanaugh, age 13, born in Washington Territory; Samuel Kavanaugh, age 3, born in Washington Territory and Laughlin Kavanaugh, infant. ^[1]

The Kavanaugh family was living at Fidalgo, Washington Territory, in 1880. James was age 54, born in Ireland as were his parents. His wife Caroline was age 35, born in Washington Territory. Children in the family were Sarsfield Kavanaugh, age 13, born in Washington and Francis Kavanaugh, age 11, born in Washington.^[2]

He did not attend Indian school.

He married in April 1892 at Fidalgo Island, Washington, to Martha Breese, a white woman. They were divorced at Mount Vernon, Skagit, Washington on October 1, 1904.

From the first marriage he had the following children:

Mable Ruth Kavanaugh-Petersen, born Sept. 13, 1893 at Fidalgo Island. She married Peter Petersen, a white man and they were living in Anacortes in 1919.

Lyman H. Kavanaugh was born 26 Feb 1895 at Fidalgo Island.

James Lee Kavanaugh was born 22 Nov 1900 at Fidalgo Island.

He married Alice (Bull) Trexell 24 Nov 1906 at Fidalgo, Skagit, Washington.^[3]

By his second marriage Francis had the following children:

Roy S. Kavanaugh, born 23 Aug 1907 at Anacortes.^[4]

Francis was living at Holcomb in Pacific County in 1919.^[5]
