24 April 1931 "I'LL MURDER YOU." Husband Threatens Wile. POLICE COURT SEQUEL. Kathleen Elizabeth Caroline Podd in the Summons Court yesterday, asked Mr. P. C. M. Burne, PM, to bind over her husband, William Podd, to keep the peace. The plaint set out that on April 12,1931, he threatened complainant as follows: I’ll kill you if I can get hold of you. I’ll murder you" Defendant entered a plea of guilty. Questioned by the P.M., defendant admitted that he had threatened his wife in the words complained of. He did not intend to hurt her. The PM.: How long have you two been married? — Nearly 18 years (15/10/1913). Are you still living together? —Yes. Do you ever quarrel? —Frequently. - Do you remember in the marriage vows that you took this woman for better or worse? —Yes, unfortunately. The circumstances of the case are unfortunate, but I cannot help laughing at you. —It is better than crying, jour Worship! To the PM complainant said that all she wanted was peace and quiet. Defendant had frequently struck her and abused her. She could not leave him because the only place she had to live was their house, which belonged to both of them. She was frightened of defendant. The PM. adjourned the matter for a month. ^[6]

24 April 1931 THREATENED HIS WIFE. Stating that on April 12, 1931, at Toowoomba, he threatened her, by saying that he would murder her If he could get her. Kathleen Elizabeth Caroline Podd, Gowrie Road, proceeded against her husband In the Summons Court yesterday, before Mr. F. C. M. Burne, and asked that he be bound over in a surety to keep the peace towards her. Defendant pleaded guilty, and stated that he never Intended to Injure his wife, but only wanted to frighten her. Defendant stated that he would not Interfere with his wife again, and the P.M. adjourned the case for a month to see if the parties could become friends. ^[7]
