Biography

James E Keeler was born about 1851 in Ohio, United States of America.[1][2]

James married Celestia Harriet Flohr on 1 Apr 1875.[3] They had four children:[1][4]

  1. Nora (Keeler) Kline (1875-1926)
  2. Charles Keeler (b. 1877)
  3. Ola (Keeler) Jones (1879-1924)
  4. John Keeler (b. 1886)

James lived in Berlin Township, Mahoning County, Ohio for most of his life. Earlier in his life, he ran a threshing machine, and then was a farmer. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias, Lodge 235.[1][2][4]

James died at his home in Berlin Township on 2 May 1920.[4] He was interred at the mausoleum of the Berlin Center West Cemetery.[2]

Research Notes

  • Extensive searches for his death certificate in the index for Ohio death certificates at Ohio History Connection's webpage and in the "Ohio Deaths, 1908-1953" collection at FamilySearch did not return any matching results (18 Dec 2021).
  • His parents have not been conclusively identified. Given that his obituary says he lived in Berlin Township the greater part of his life and the matching name and age, it seems likely that he is the James Keeler in the following census records who was probably a son or relative of Clayton and Nancy Keeler. Further research is needed to confirm or refute this hypothesis.
