James was born in Carrigeenagappul, Roscommon Ireland on Feb 11, 1877. He was the son of Thomas Kelly and Elizabeth Beirne.
He was a farmer and remained single.
James passed away in Corraslira, Roscommon Ireland on Nov 26, 1958, age 81 with his cousin Patrick Kelly (Corraslira) present at his death. He is buried in Killina Cemetery, Tulsk, County Roscommon, Ireland.
