Biography

Edward was born in England, United Kingdom during 1860. He is the son of William Kelly. He passed away in Magill, South Australia during 1927.

Edward married Janet Brown in Stirling East, South Australia on 29 March 1881.[1]

Edward died in Magill, South Australia on 15 February 1927 at the age of 67 years.[2] The following death notice was published in the South Australian newspaper, The Observer, on 19 February 1927:[3]

KELLY.—On the 15th February, at his son-in-law's residence, Mr. A. Poyner, Magill, Edward Kelly, late of Aldgate and S.A.R., aged 67 years.

Edward was buried at the Stirling East Cemetery (now the Stirling General Cemetery) in Aldgate, South Australia on 17 February 1927.[4][5]

The following obituary was published in the South Australian newspaper, The Register, on 19 February 1927:[6]

The late Mr. Edward Kelly, whose death occurred a few days ago, was a resident of Aldgate for many years. He was born at Highgate, England, 67 years ago, and 20 years later came to South Australia. Mr. Kelly was for 37 years a railway officer, and held the rank of inspector when he retired two and a half years ago. He was stationed at Hergott Springs, in the Desert, at the Finnis, and at Algat. For a time he went to Whyalla for the Broken Hill Proprietary Company, and then rejoined the railway service as an inspector on the west coast. Mr. Kelly was W.M. of the Sir Samuel Way Lodge of Freemasons. He was also an energetic member of the Church of Christ in Aldgate Valley. He has left a family of four sons and four daughters— Messrs. William and Edward Kelly (Aldgate), Archibald (Hamley Bridge), and Leslie (Stockport), Mesdames J. Watts (Stockport), A. Poyner (Magill), P. Shipway, (Currency Creek), and R. Pitt (Currency Creek).
