Biography

William was born in 1865. He was the son of Rowland Veitch Kemmis-Betty and Lydia Mary Green. [1][2]

In 1871 he was living with his mother, sister and two servants at the Knightstown Villas, 28 Walter St, Glamorgan [3]

He moved to the Transvaal, South Africa in about 1879 at the age of 16. He was involved in the mining industry and co-invented a new process to extract gold from potassium cyanide solutions [4]

His sister visited him in Johannesburg around 1891.

He married, a Alice Maria Theodora Melvill on the 15th of August 1894. [5]

They had three children in South Africa:

  1. Willy (1895 - 1970)
  2. Dorothy (1896 - 1984)
  3. Leslie (1904 - 1977)

He and his family returned to England sometime after this.

His sister Alice and her family visited them in England around 1912. [6]
