Biography
Peter Bain Kenen was born on November 30, 1932 in Cleveland, Cuyahoga, Ohio, United States, son of Isaiah Leo Kenen (1905–1988) and Beatrice Bain (1906–1969).[1]
He moved with his family to New York, where he attended the Bronx High School of Science. He graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa with a B.A. from Columbia College, New York, New York in 1954 and earned an M.A. (1956) and a Ph.D. (1958) from Harvard. From 1956-57 he was a research student at the London School of Economics.[2][1]
He taught at Columia College, New York from 1957 to 1971 and near the end of that tenure was appointed provost and also was awarded the University Medal for Excellence in 1977. He taught at Princeton from 1971-2004, was the Walker Professor of Economics and International Finance there, and continued to teach part-time until 2011.[2][1]
Peter died on December 17, 2012 in New Jersey, United States, aged 80.[3][4]
He is buried in Princeton Cemetery, Princeton, Mercer County, New Jersey, United States with a death date of 17 Dec 2012.[5][1]
