,A Good Man Gone.
Denis Thomas Keogh is no .more. „ ..For many years the member , for Rosewood was a striking figure in the State Parliament, and he was representing- his constituents In the Assembly until .little more than an hour before' his call to Eternity came, shortly after midnight on Thursday last he appeared hale and hearty when he left the House, after adjournment, on Thursday, to catch a train, and he seemed in .good health, when he reached Ipswich. 'Twas shortly after the arrival of the train at Ipswich that he sot a had turn, and was conveyed by the Ambulance to Ids home, where his spirit passed peacefully away. 1 The' doctor's decision was heart failure.
Denis Keogh was 74 years of ago when he died, and he had served his adopted
country honorably for nearly 60 years, having come to Victrola in the stirring
days of the early fifties, when diggers dared dangers and death to win fortunes.
Denis, was a Calway man, and the brogue of Briarfield. was with him to the end.
Before aspiring-for- State honors, the late member for Rosewood served as alderman in the Ipswich City Council for 11 years, and he presided as Mayor for
one term. Elected a member of the State parliament lb 18$G, Denis Keogh,
notwithstanding his years, was a 'faithful- representative, and he was never
missing from his post when his vote was needed for his party. He was a thorough Philpite, and when Kidston became converted and leader of the mixed- team,
the member for Rosewood rebelled, and a bold attempt was made by the P.P.L. to silence him by running a candidate against him. A plain, blunt man, Denis
Thomas Keoglh was always content to let others do the speech-making records, and of him it con be said that he had the respect of ail who knew him."[7]
