Bertha Katherine Kepplinger was born 5 Mar 1891 in Illinois, a daughter of Elizabeth Leisge and Leonard Kepplinger . She was one of three siblings of to marry children of Theresa W. Burger and George J. S. Simantel.

Bertha married George J. Simantel, a son of Theresa W. Burger and George J. S. Simantel. They were probably married in Illinois. They are known to have had four children, Helen, Francis, Harold and Alice. Their first child was born in Illinois and the rest in South Dakota. The family later moved to Oregon.

Bertha passed away on 7 October 1987 in Cornelius, Oregon and is buried in Fir Lawn Memorial Park Hillsboro, Washington County, Oregon
