Biography

William was born about 1793, estimated from age at death.

He married Lydia Stevenson on 10 February 1819 at Leek. Both of Leek parish, he signed she marked, witnesses Francis Hilliard and Hugh Stevenson.^[1][2][3][4]

William died in 1861 aged 68.^[5][6]

Research Notes

There were several William Kidds born about 1792. Possible baptisms:

William son of William and Ann Kid baptised 11 March 1792 Sheen

William son of David and Elizabeth Kidd bapt 11 February 1792 Warslow

William son of Sampson and Ann Kidd bapt 5 June 1796 Warslow

There is also William son of Nicolas Kidd Reaps Moor baptised 16 October 1792 Longnor, and this William does give Longnor/Heathylee as his place of birth. But William son of Nicholas was left money in the will of his uncle Abel, brother of Nicholas, where he is described as nephew William Kidd, shoemaker, of New Town, Fawfieldhead, and William's son Abel was also left money. William Kidd of Fawfieldhead is well documented and is in censuses there at the same time as this William is a silk dyer in Leek, so they are separate people and the Longnor baptism must be William of Fawfieldhead.
