Robert Leroy Kilpatrick was born on July 17, 1913 in Abingdon, Knox, Illinois, United States, son of Everett Logan Kilpatrick (1878–1953) and Anna Maude Courson (~1881–1963).

Robert (32) married June M Ratliff (19) (born on June 18, 1926 in Barry, Pike, Illinois) on October 3, 1945 in Galesburg, Knox. Their son was Gary Lee Kilpatrick (1946–2022).
