Frederick Mason was born in Barton, Vermont, in 1861, the son of Reuben and Lodema (Percival) Kimball.[1]
The family had settled in Somerville, Massachusetts, by 1870.[2] He was an only child and attended local schools.[3] He graduated from Somerville High School with the class of 1881.[4]
When he was 24 years old, he married Ellen "Nellie" Ross of Medford, Massachusetts, daughter of William and Ellen (Barnes), in 1885.[5] By 1900, the couple shared a home in Somerville with their 3 daughters, Fred's mother, and a servant. Frederick worked as an electrical engineer.[6]
Their children, all born in Somerville, were:
*Nellie Lodema, b. 3 May 1886
* Winifred Ross, b. Nov. 9, 1887
* Irene Mason, b. 1 Feb 1888
They later moved to Newton, Massachusetts[7] and Marblehead, Massachusetts.[8]
