Mary E. King was born on February 13, 1844, in Middletown, New York, to Hiram King and Charlotte Sawyer

In 1850, Mary E. (6), lived in Wallkill, Orange County, New York, with her (inferred) father Hiram (48 - worked as a tailor), her (inferred) mother Charlotte (41), her (inferred) brother James (22 - worked as a druggist), her (inferred) brother George (20 - worked as a moulder), her (inferred) brother Hiram (14), her (inferred) John (8), her (inferred) brother Henry (3) and her (inferred) sister Charlotte (3/12)[1].

In 1855, Mary (11), lived in Wallkill, with her (inferred) father Hiram (age in 50's and worked as a postmaster), her (inferred) mother Charlotte (46), her (inferred) brother Hiram (19 - worked as a machinist), her (inferred) sister Elizabeth (14), her (inferred) brother John (13), her (inferred) brother Henry (8) and her (inferred) sister Charlotte (5)[2].

In 1860, Mary E. (16), lived in Wallkill, Orange County, New York, with her (inferred) father Hiram (age in 50's and worked as a postmaster), her (inferred) mother Charlotte (51), her (inferred) brother John S. (18 - worked as an apprentice printer) and her (inferred) brother Henry (13)[3][4].
