Biography

Julia Cook King was born in 1853. In the 1860 census Julia (age 7) was in Athens, Clarke County, Georgia.[1] In the 1870 census Julia (age 17), At Home, was in Athens, Clarke, Georgia.[2]

Julia and notable journalist Henry W. Grady obtained a marriage license on 5 October 1871 in Clarke County, Georgia. They were married that day by Eustace W. Speer, who had also married her parents in 1851.[3] Their marriage also appears in a record from Cherokee County, Alabama, over 150 miles west.[4] In the 1880 census Julia (age 27), keeping house, was the wife of Henry W. Grady in Atlanta, Fulton, Georgia, United States.[5]

Henry died in 1889. Julia was in a directory in 1891 living at 353 Peachtree, Atlanta, Georgia.[6] Julia (age 44) applied for a passport on 1 April 1896 in Atlanta, Georgia. She planned to travel with her daughter Gussie.[7] Julia's will was recorded on 11 February 1901 in Fulton County, Georgia. Her parents and children Gussie and Henry were [8]

Julia died on 14 September 1901. She was buried in Westview Cemetery, Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia, United States.[9] Julia's will was proven on 16 October 1901 in Fulton County, Georgia. Executors were her son Henry W. Grady and son-in-law Eugene R. Black.[10]
