James Edward Kinnersly was born in Learmonth, Victoria in 1895, the son of Edward Charles Kinnersly and Margaret Anne Ross.^[1]

In 1916, aged 21 years, he enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force and served at the Western Front. Having been wounded multiple times, he returned to Australia for discharge in November 1918.^[2][3]

In 1927, he married Margaret Victoria O'Rorke.^[4]

He passed away in Ballarat on 2nd January 1969, aged 73,^[5] and is buried in the Streatham Cemetery.^[6]
