Biography

Info from find a grave memorial "An obituary published in the Shelbyville Democrat on November 11, 1915 for Jacob F. Kircher, a pioneer resident of Shelbyville, stated that he had died at his home on North Broadway the previous Thursday [November 4, 1915]. Mr. Kircher was born in Wurtenburg, Germany, Oct. 20, 1827. At the age of about three years he immigrated with his parents to Maryland, and after a stay of about three years located near Lancaster, Ohio where he grew to manhood. In 1852 he was married to Miss Rosanna Pfeifer and in 1855 they came to Shelby county, settling on a farm five miles northwest of Shelbyville. In 1892 he and his wife had moved into Shelbyville. Eight children were born to them, six of whom survived him; Mrs. Wm. Ruff of Shelbyville; John F. Kircher of Shelbyville; Mrs. John Kneller of Rose Township, Wm. E. Kircher of Ridge Township, Mrs. Theodore Warner of Ridge Township and Philip G. Kircher of Shelbyville. The two deceased children were Mrs. John Kimmel and Theodore L. Kircher. His wife had died Oct. 20, 1908. Also surviving were 18 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church. The funeral services were held at St. John's Lutheran Church, Rev. J. F. Shuelte of Mattoon officiating, assisted by Rev. A. T. Bonnet of Strasburg. Burial was in Glenwood Cemetery."
