Biography

Arthur was born in 1917. He was the son of Frank Korbelik and Carrie Rischling. He passed away in 2003.

Arthur A. Korbelik, 85, of Aiken, S.C., died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.

Graveside services will be at a later date at the Bohemian National Cemetery Association, a Czechoslovakian Cemetery in Geneva.

George Funeral Home in Aiken, S.C., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Korbelik was born in Milligan to Frank J. and Caroline (Rischling) Korbelik.

Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Jean (Lawrence) Korbelik; two daughters, Carol Ramey of Oahu, Hawaii, and Sandra Korbelik of Aiken, S.C.; a son, Larry Korbelik of San Diego; and two brothers, Emil Korbelik of Ashland and Frank Korbelik of Superior.

Survivors also include six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He had lived in Grand Island for three years prior to relocating to Aiken, S.C., in June 2002. A Navy pilot during World War II, he retired after 21 years of service with the rank of Commander. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, American Defense Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal and the Asiatic-Pacific Air Medal with four stars. Following his retirement from the U.S. Navy, he worked for 10 years in security at Delco Electronics in Santa Barbara, Calif. Mr. Korbelik enjoyed woodworking and gardening.

He and his wife were married for 60 years.

In 1974, a daughter, Linda Kreutzkampf, preceded him in death.
