Peter was born in 1824. He was the son of Johann Kosler. He was an Austrian-Slovene lawyer, geographer, cartographer, activist, and businessman. He was of ethnic German origin, but also identified with Slovene culture and advocated the peaceful coexistence of the Slovene and German cultures in Carniola. He died in Ljubljana in 1879.
