Carl was born in 1746. He was the son of Johannes Læstadius. He passed away in 1832.
Carl married twice. First to Brita Christina Jung in 1767.[1] They had 4 children. Brita died in 1798 and he remarried in 1799 to Anna Magdalena Johansdatter, a woman of partly Sami origin. They had 2 children.
Carl Læstadius was apprenticed to a goldsmith in Stockholm and became the mine bailiff at the Nasafjäll silver mine within his father's parish in 1772. When the mining operation was shut down in 1810, he moved with his wife to the church village of Arjeplog, where the couple earned a very modest living by boiling glue from reindeer antlers. Later, he became a settler. Carl was the father of Lars Levi and Petrus Læstadius. On February 19, 1825, both brothers passed their ordination exams before the Härnösand chapter, and the following day they were ordained in Härnösand Cathedral. Afterwards, their paths diverged.
Lars Levi Læstadius later described his father as a man with a fiery temperament, "noted for his cheerfulness, quick antics and whims," but who had a really poor tolerance for beer. The mother, on the other hand, was melancholic and anxious, and shed many tears over the situation at home.
