MRS PAYETTE FATALLY HURT IN ACCIDENT Injured When Automobile Struck By Hit-Skip Driver
Mrs. Josephine Payette, widow of the late Joseph Payette, of 95 North Catherine street, city, died in the Champlain Valley hospital at 8:15 o'clock last night from injuries suffered when the automobile in which she was riding was struck by a hit-skip driver. She was 79 years old.
The accident occurred at Robinson Terrace and Oak street yesterday morning about 10 o'clock. Police said that Mrs. Payette was riding in a car operated by her grandson, Robert Payette, and the Payette car was traveling south on Oak street. Trombly was proceeding east on Bailey avenue and was turning into Oak street at the time of the crash. Police charge Trombly sped away after the accident but that Reginald Poissonault of 219 Margaret street, an eye witness jotted down the license number of the car, which he turned over to the police. Mrs. Payette was treated at the hospital by Dr. Frank K. Ryan who found she was suffering from several fractured ribs and of shock,
