Regiment(s): Co D, 12th Battalion, Georgia Light Artillery
Roll of Honor
Lt Samuel Langley was Wounded in Action during United States Civil War.

Samuel was born in 1840 and died in 1897.

  • Mr. Samuel Langley, a well known and popular citizen of Charleston, died at this residence 174 King Street, yesterday. Mr. Langley was a gallant Confederate soldier and his death was due largely to wounds which he had carried since the war between the States. Mr. Langley was born in Winnsboro, Fairfield County, on October 11, 1840. When the war began he enlisted with Hagood's brigade, but after a short service joined the 12th Georgia battalion and served with that command through the long years of the struggle. He was wounded several times, the most seriously at Cold Harbor and at "the Crater" near Petersburg, Va. He was several times promoted for gallantry, and when the struggle was over he surrendered wearing the shoulder straps of a lieutenant. Since the war Mr. Langley has been engaged with his brother, the firm being Langley Brothers, shirt manufacturers. He has never taken any part in politics. Mr. Langley was, as will be seen by the date of his birth, in his 57th years. He leaves a widow and five children.
