Abraham was born September 8, 1808, the son of Abraham Lansing and Susanna Yates. [1][2]
He attended Williams College, Williamstown, Massachusetts. After graduating he studied law in Albany and practiced there for a time. He then became a farmer in Stillwater New York and occupied a large and well managed farm and was one of the founders of The Saratoga County Fair. [3]
He was married May 2 1836 to Miss Eliza Jane Von Alstyne They had fourteen children nine sons and five daughters. [3] [1][2]

Mr Lansing died in Albany November 24, 1857, aged forty nine. He was a man of fine mental capacities which he had largely cultivated. He sought no political positions but was possessed of a peculiarly social and even disposition, which won the respect and attracted the affection of all those who knew him. [3] [1][2]
