OBITUARY. - MR. J. B. LAWSON.

The death occurred at Millthorpe on Saturday of Mr. J. B. Lawson, at the age of 73 years. The deceased was an old resident of Pretty plains, and was well known in the Blayney and Milithorpe districts. He leaves a widow and three daughters, viz., Mrs. Brett, Gunnedah; Mrs. McNamee, Malvern (Vic.), and Mrs. P. Fardy, Millthorpe. On Saturday afternoon he had a sudden seizure, and when Dr. Cribb arrived he pronounced the case as hopeless, the nature of it being apoplectic. A sad phase of the passing of Mr. Lawson is that Mrs. Lawson was away in Melbourne, having been called thither owing to the death of Mrs. McNamee's (her daughter's) husband. Mrs. N. Farrell, of the Occidental Hotel, Orange, is a niece of the deceased.

FUNERAL LATE JOHN B. LAWSON.

To-day saw the last of the mortal remains of the late John B. Lawson laid to rest. It was a goodly gathering that paid its last respects to the deceased, who was widely known and respected right throughout the district. The remains, which were enclosed in a mounted casket, were interred in the Church of England portion of the local cemetery, the rector, the Rev. R. Hugh Kelly, officiating.

In our obituary notice of yesterday we omitted the following few facts in connection with the life of the deceased. He was born at Sydney, in the year 1841, and was educated at Christ Church Grammar School. At the age of 22, however, he left the metropolis and decided to try his fortune in the Bathurst-Orange district. This was in the year 1863. In October of the year 1865 he married Mary Ann Rowe, who survives him. For 50 years or thereabouts the late John Lawson lived and labored in the Orange-Millthorpe district. He was an engineer by profession. Mrs. John Reed and Son, of Blayney, had charge of the mortuary arrangements.

John Benjamin Lawson born in Sydney and died at Millthorpe on 4 April 1914. I do not have details of his birth but based on age at death and year of death it appears he was born in 1840/1. His birth pre-dates BDM records so I have not yet been able to trace his date of birth or parents and his death certificate does not give the names of his parents.
